Getting Started
YOUR FIRST DAY
At Birkenhead College we pride ourselves on making your first day of secondary school an exciting one, rather than a daunting one. This is how your time with us will begin:
WHAKATAU
You will be formally welcomed onto the school grounds with a whakatau in the Brian Gerrard Theatre.
FORM CLASS
An important part of your school life will revolve around your form class. You will meet your form teacher and classmates and spend some time familiarising yourself with this group of people.
PEER SUPPORT PROGRAMME
Each year a group of Year 13 students volunteer to be our Peer Support Leaders. Each Year 9 form class has several of these leaders attached to it. The role of a Peer Support Leader is to help smooth the transition for our new Year 9 students into secondary school. They will spend a number of sessions with their form class, working through a programme of activities designed to make our new students feel supported during their first weeks at Birkenhead College. You will meet your Peer Support Leaders and go through an introductory session with them.
SCHOOL ORIENTATION
Your Peer Support Leaders will take you on a tour of the school to familiarise you with all the key buildings and amenities.
I.T. SETUP
Time is put aside to spend with Miss Kate Fuller (our Director of I.T.) who will get you set up on the school network. You will get your school login details and work through a small session on the key apps you will need to navigate.
At the end of this day you will be ready to start your learning journey with us at BC!
