Pastoral Care
The Pastoral Care team at Birkenhead College seeks an individualised approach when caring for each student, while maintaining a view for overall care of the whole school cohort.
We have a strong pastoral staff team made up of Deans, Guidance, Careers, a Health Centre and the Head of Pastoral. We work together if needed and advocate for positive outcomes for each student academically, socially and emotionally. Our value system at Birkenhead College of Whānau, Pride and Respect is at the core of our approach, where we ensure that everybody is somebody. Building trusting and supportive relationships with our students is something we succeed at and strongly value.
Our guidance counsellor is on hand as needed, and students can request appointments through the Health Centre. Many students find this a positive way to express their concerns and to learn skills in building resilience and support. For information on our Guidance Department click here.
It is important to us that your child feels happy and valued during their time here at Birkenhead College. We endeavour for every student to have a strong connection with the school, which is why we build from a whānau-inclusive model of care and support. This approach allows students to feel confident in seeking help, advice and guidance whenever they need it - long term or short.
